Death of a Mountain explores the aftermath of asbestos exposure. Asbestos is the first killer of workers in BC whether it is through asbestos mining or through construction and renovation. Through interviews of people being affected directly or indirectly by asbestos exposure.
For the soundscape, we wanted to go with an eerie ambiance that is reminiscent of the dangers of the underground like cave echo sounds. Even if the dangers of asbestos were revealed in the late 19th century and early 20th century, the world still had asbestos blindness and work regulations were not put in place until later in the 20th century. So we went with a creative poem as caption that describes the deadly blindness.
